We are proud makers of Britain’s finest shirts. Located in Chard, Somerset, our factory is one of the only remaining shirt factories in the British Isles.
We have over forty years of experience in producing garments of exceptional quality using traditional craftsmanship and only the finest cloths and trims.
Our expert cutters, sewers and machinists will work with you to craft shirts to your specific requirements, whether using one of our pre-existing patterns or designing new ones just for you.
We pride ourselves on producing the finest quality shirts to the most exacting standards.
We specialise in both men’s and women’s luxury shirting. Whether you’re looking for casual, business or special occasion shirting, we have a broad range of shapes, collars, cuffs and finishing details to choose from.
We can also work with you to develop your own unique shapes and features.
We source from some of the world’s best cloth mills to offer a curated selection of cloths, or you can provide your own cloth. For more specific information, please see our Frequently Asked Questions or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rayner & Sturges was founded in 1975 under the name Raymond Cleeve. Our small industrious company rapidly grew as we gained more clients from large High Street brands to some of the most sought-after tailoring houses on Savile Row. We eventually outgrew our home, and moved into a brand new purpose-built factory in Chard, Somerset, which opened in 1998 by HRH The Princess Royal.
We are lucky enough to still employ the same master crafts people that were here when the company began over forty years ago, and we all pride ourselves on producing on the finest quality shirts to the most exacting standards.
Our commitment to retaining and supporting skilled workers has given us an incredible wealth of experience and expertise to draw on. Today (and since 2013), Rayner & Sturges is owned by stakeholders dedicated to reviving manufacturing in the UK as well as traditional British shirt-making.
Rayner & Sturges specialises in traditional, high-quality casual and formal shirting for both men, women, and children. We work on both a fully-factored (select from cloths) or cut-make-trim basis (you provide your own cloth). We have a substantial in-house offer of collar and cuff options.
Beyond the traditional button-down shirt for men, women, and children, we can make evening shirts, popovers, over-shirts, shirt-jackets, and shirt dresses.
The shirts are produced exclusively from start to finish in our own factory in Chard, Somerset.
We invite all who are interested to visit our factory.
Rayner & Sturges offer both cut-make-trim (“CMT”) and fully-factored services.
A CMT service includes the making of the shirt, plus our buttons, all care and size labels, collar stays and all packaging. Own cloth must be provided for a CMT service.
A fully-factored service is a CMT service except you choose from a selection of cloths we have available on offer.
We have a 100-unit minimum order per style for both CMT and fully-factored services. Within each order, multiple cloths can be selected; we require a minimum of 10 shirts per cloth.
We can use your own existing patterns, as well as develop and grade new patterns for you. Developing new patterns typically will incur sampling costs and is generally a longer initial process.
We work with the Gerber CAD system, plotter and digitiser.
The lead time is dependent on the project, but the factory targets delivery dates of 12-16 weeks after an order is submitted.
We understand that today’s end-customer appreciates options and a more personalised product. Thus, we often work with existing customers to develop a scalable made-to-measure program providing it’s against an order that meets our minimum requirements.
Unfortunately, we are unable to work on a made-to-measure only basis.
We do not offer any bespoke services.
For fully-factored services, our in-house cloth selection features the finest shirting cloths sourced from mills in Italy and Switzerland including Albini, Thomas Mason, Alumo, Grandi & Rubinelli, and Canclini.
We primarily work with cottons, linens, and wool/cotton blends. Unfortunately, we do not work with silks, jerseys or any fabric containing elastane stretch.
All branded labels are to be supplied by the customer.
